BEAVER WORKS TECHNICIAN
- Position: Beaver Works Technician
- Employer: Beaver Works Oregon
- Location: Bend, OR
- Time: April 2024 – June 2024

Beaver Works is a non-profit working to support beavers in central Oregon through willow planting, community education, and community science. During this position, I helped run volunteer days live staking willow cuttings, talked to folks about beavers at outreach events, and worked on a sci-comm project. This short term position perfectly filled a gap in employment and gave me practice thinking from a wildlife perspective, when my usual default is more water-centric. It also helped me notice how much I enjoy teaching/volunteer stuff! I got to try my hand at science writing and had my first real go at illustration (!!) — for an article exploring how beaver dams influence downstream flow. Turned out to be extremely difficult to write about due because it varies based on place-based context and it can be a contentious issue so I really didn’t want to misrepresent it. Definitely a challenge and as much as it at time gave me a headache (and beaver burnout), deep down I love a difficult task and it was super fun to be my own illustrator!
