If PAL-entine doesn’t make sense, that’s because it’s niche reference to an acronym used in stream restoration. PALS, aka. Post Assisted Log Structures, are basically a constructed log jam with some posts added to keep in in place. The purpose is to introduce more habitat complexity by forcing hydraulic diversity (fast and slow water).
